Empowering the Next Generation: Teen-Star Skills Training 2025 by Christabel Ebhonu, Convener of BreakitDown Initiative Foundation in Collaboration with Basilica of Divine Grace, Nibo, Awka South, Anambra State.
"Living with Purpose: Making the Most of My Teenage Years".
That was
the theme that echoed through the hearts of over 75 teenagers who participated
in the 2025 edition of the Teen-Stars Skills Training, a two-day transformative
event held on the 29th and 30th of August 2025 at Basilica
of Divine Grace, Nibo. The
programme was organized by BreakitDown Initiative Foundation in collaboration with Basilica of Divine Grace, Nibo, Awka South, Anambra State.
The event
commenced with registration at 9:30 am, followed by an opening prayer and a
warm welcome address by Mrs. Uyai-Abasi Anigbogu. Reverend Ejike Asogwa, curate
of the host church, delivered a brief but impactful charge, setting the tone
for a day of learning, reflection, and empowerment.
Day One: Purpose, Purity, and
Personal Growth
The first
session, facilitated by Mrs. Uyai-Abasi Anigbogu, focused on decision-making in
career paths. She encouraged teenagers to pursue clarity and personal
conviction in their future choices, despite external pressures. The session
sparked deep engagement, with participants asking thoughtful questions about
career confusion and personal goals.
Mrs.
Ngozi Asogwa followed with a session on personal hygiene, emphasizing the
importance of self-care, cleanliness, and healthy habits during adolescence.
After a refreshing tea break, Mr. Edward Ozokede led a compelling presentation
on drug and substance abuse, urging teenagers to make wise lifestyle choices
and remember their identity in Christ.
Ms. Dara
Etuk handled a sensitive but timely session on sex education, speaking candidly
about purity, chastity, and the dangers of unhealthy relationships. Her message
resonated deeply with the teens, leaving a lasting impression.
The
day concluded with a powerful session led by the Convener, Mrs. Christabel
Ebhonu, on Purpose Discovery, Understanding, and Fulfillment. She
encouraged participants to write down their visions and dreams, referencing
Habakkuk 2:2: “And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and
make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” She further
urged them to reflect on their strengths and begin the journey of living
intentionally. Certificates of appreciation were presented to Mrs. Uyai-Abasi,
Mr. Edward, and Mrs. Ngozi for their meaningful contributions. Justice CEK
Anigbogu delivered a closing charge, commending both the team and the
participants for their commitment to growth.
Day Two: Practical Skills for
Real-Life Impact
The
second day was dedicated to hands-on training across various skill areas. The
Makeup and Gele Tying class, led by Ms. Mabel Iluke, gave participants the
opportunity to practice makeup application on their peers. Mrs. Christabel
Ebhonu facilitated the Photography class, where students actively captured
moments from the event, learning camera handling and composition.
The
Healthy Drink Making class was taken by Ms. Kosisochukwu
Nraigu, she divided the class
into four
groups, each preparing different recipes including parfaits and smoothies. Mr. Kingsley Udo who was incharged of the ICT class was explored foundational digital
tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel, with facilitators ensuring every
participant regardless
of prior experience, gained meaningful skills.

At the
close of the training, four outstanding students were selected from each
practical class and awarded Certificates of Excellence. All facilitators

Asogwa led the closing prayer and impartation, sealing the event with blessings
and encouragement.
